Couple Of Quickie Portraits...

Well...They were taken outdoors....And one of them was in the street...The other on the canal towpath by our boat....

Look Here...Look There....

I had thought that I had photographed everything of note in Oxford, but now I've got the street photography bug I realise that Oxford is a great place to go out shooting as there is a constant stream of changing faces....There's daytrippers, tourists from all over the world, students, academics, regular locals (plenty of familiar faces too) and an assortment of other oddballs...Rich pickings!

Freezing Cold Today!.....

Only had a brief half hour in town today, it was bitterly cold...

A Couple More From The Other Day......

Too busy to take any shots today, plus, back at work and the uniform I have to wear makes me look like a man from the Council...Or the Immigration Department...If I point my camera at random people the all dive for the shadows!

Against The Light....

Some More Folks In Hats...

The topper seems to be making a comeback......

I Was Thinking There Wasn't Much To Photograph...Then I spotted these guys...

Sunday's Pictures...

Not my most productive day today...But perhaps that's because I spent too long in the pub!

A Few More Shots From Saturday

I have decided that, for the most part, buskers, and Big Issue vendors are just too soft a target (though they do have great dogs)....The Falun Gong guy in this set..probably also falls into that bracket...but what the heck....

Today's Results....

That's my first week of concentrating solely on street photography in B&W, As time goes on, I'm refining my technique, and find that I'm connecting more with my subjects and having some interesting (and some bizarre!) conversations..

This is becoming my new addiction!

I'm now totally hooked on street shooting, I can't think why I haven't done this all along...I get quite excited...you never know who you're going to spot next..I'm looking out for people with interesting faces, interesting way of walking, clothes, hats or if they are simply doing something that's a little bit visually interesting...I'm getting bolder and I'm no longer being furtive...I say "thanks" if people clock me and smile sweetly, I've spoken with quite a few of my subjects and had a good response so far...I've not been punched ...yet!...Politeness seems to pay off...I was rather disappointed with Bruce Gilden's rather rude and brash approach which I thought a little disrespectful.......

My second outing....

Unfortunately , my budget doesn't run to a Leica so I'm using my Canon Eos 5D with 50mm f.1.8 lens..This gives me the option to shoot with a wide aperture, if a compressed depth of field lends itself to the subject, it also means I can use a low ISO setting and have a clear idea in my head of how things will be framed when I put the camera to my eye and fire the shutter..I set the autofocus to the centre spot and usually use an evaluative metering mode to give correct exposure of the background when shooting a darker subject. I work mostly using aperture priority auto.....

Here's some of the shots from my first visit to the sttreets....
